The Story

Named one of the Top 200 Plants of the Past 200 Years by the Royal Horticultural Society, this award-winning lily is the one savvy gardeners and landscapers will be asking for this year. Big, fragrant blooms feature an elegant trumpet form that grows up to 8" long and attracts large numbers of pollinators throughout the summer season. Not officially classified as a lily, it is actually a cardiocrinum, a close relative of lilies. Regardless of its genus, this Giant Himalayan Lily lives up to its name, each one reaching 7-10' tall, while producing up to 20 extra-large, white blooms with reddish-purple streaks that radiate from the throats.
Seldom offered, but highly sought after, these unique shade lovers add amazing color and flair to woodland sites and shadowy foundations. Attractive seed capsules replace the faded blooms in fall, providing interest and a touch of style to the autumnal landscape. An unusual lily, the main bulb dies after flowering, but new, smaller bulbs form in its place, though it will take a number of years for this transformation. Unlike standard lilies, which produce blooms year after year, the Giant Himalayan Lily is quite different—but, oh so worth the wait. Prefers light shade or morning sun, and slightly moist soil.
